Democracy creates stability in a society

To get the ball rolling on the motion, Democracy creates stability, i personally feel that this statement is true.

I shall prove my point on the economic point of view.
Based on the links that are given, it is shown that democratic states are ranked high in the 2005 Human Development Index.
Singapore and Korea, recognised as among the world's richest countries, are under democratic rule.
Democracy too influences development and vice-versa. This is because a transparent and fair government allows for fair chances for all and this provides for development in a country.

I agree to your comment to some extent. However, democracy does not always create stability economically. Take India as an example. Although India is developing at a fast rate, many people still live in poverty. The rich in India are getting richer while the poor are still being marginalised and are not able to mantain a decent standard of living. This is just one example. Please feel free to argue otherwise. This is just my opinion

I would like to add on to why democracy does not always create stability. Take africa for example. Today, the struggle of democracy and human rights still continues in africa. Even though africa is under democratic rule, it still remains the poorest and most undeveloped continent which led to widespread poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition of the people. this is due to many reasons such as failed central planning by the government.
Democracy is suppose to bring political and social stability and economic progress. however if you look at the case in africa, many are suffering.

however if you see in countries supposedly living under democratic rule, they aren't actually getting the liberty and the empowerment of the people as it is thought to be. As you said in Africa where the poverty gap is increasing and that there are many people still suffering from starvation and all those. This could be because the countries are still developing. Also, there are places where mafia-like groups are terrorizing the impoverished and suffering people. Also if you take cases such as Sudan and Darfur, where over 3.5 million people live off humanitarian aid, this areas are governed by authoritarian rule not democracy. Feel free to raise any objections or clarify further

In my opinion, democracy creates stability. Let’s look at the field of equality. With democracy, people are free to express their ideas and suggestions to the government. Some of the contributions from people can be very effective that may considerably help the government to overcome some of the problem. Simply to say, this policy helps the country to have positive changes and develop. One example is the feedback system in Singapore, which looks at ideas from people for improvement in public service.
Also, with the equality that democracy brings, people will have rights in some particular fields such as voting; getting involved in more political activities... Every citizens can vote to choose who they want to be their future leader. It means that the government which is voted will receive solid support from its own citizens. This is one of the most important factors that a government needs to create stability.

In my opinion, nowadays there are many countries in the world which use democracy as their policy. However, democracy can be a two-side knife. As the government is chosen by the vote from people, and actually in voting, the winning way is to be persuasive in speech and not to show their talents. As a result, people can easily make mistake in choosing their leaders, meaning letting the country go down. Democracy of course has good and bad points. A country is better when they know how to utilize the good points, to avoid bad points and vice versa. However, even a poor democratic country cannot develop as an richer one. That's why there are both rich and poor democratic countries.

Only to a certain extent can democracy create stability. It is all up to the people themselves as they are the ones after all, who decide the policies and who is going to represent them. In Africa, the people are still not very open to the idea of democracy and it will take some time for democracy to settle into their society. Another reason why democracy does not seem to work is because the majority of people there are uneducated. They are trapped in a poverty cycle and democracy is not going to get them out of it. However in general, democracy does create stability. I feel that it is the best system of government. Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union are examples of countries whose system of government was communism. Both countries collapsed because their leaders failed to create a consensus among the people. I believe that democracy can solve this problem since everyone has a say in the country's policies.
